Weekly Bulletin

Bulletin Deadline:   Monday, 12:00 Noon.

Palm Sunday of the Lord's Passion

The book of Isaiah has been classed the fifth gospel.   Christians have embraced the prophecies of pain and hope in Israel and have recognized in them what happened to Jesus.   What is most stunning is that the one known as the suffering servant is a teacher" "The LORD God has given me the tongue of a teacher, that I may know how to sustain the weary with a word.   Morning by morning he wakens - wakens my ear to listen as those who are taught" (Isaiah 50:4).   We are meant to see meaning in what he suffers.
Where is the human image of God Threatened today?   We can hardly bear to look at the starving, the desperate, the poor people without home or hope, those living with war, those with no control over where they might be safe, those who look like pawns in a game out of control.   Faced with all of this, what can we do?   We want to both look and turn away.   If we want to help, what are we up against?   What would we suffer?
We might embrace the one riding in on a donkey.   We do well to sing in praise.   We are packed along the route that shouts hosannas.   Later we are among those who shout for crucifixion, wanting the whole confusing, painful scene to end.
The most amazing gift of Christ, the teacher who suffers, is that he will not turn his face from us even though he knows we are the crowd that sings and the crowd that condemns.
Years after Christ's death and resurrection, the epistle to the Philippians present a hymn, one with deep insight into the Gospel.   Christ humbled himself.   He did not claim his equality with God; he emptied himself.   After this, God raised him.
The hymn in Philippians says each tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord.   We start there.   God wants to do in us what he did in Christ.   What must we let go?

"Jottings" from Sister Nancy

"Hear Ye  -  Hear Ye"

A word about the upcoming "special liturgies" that will occur on Holy Thursday, Good Friday and Holy Saturday.
I would like to extend an invitation to all persons in our parish to consider coming to church to celebrate, revere and honor these three days better referred to as the "Triduum."   These 3 days are marked as red on the Liturgical Calendar indicating the importance of these days for communal worship.
The Triduum begins with the evening Mass of the Lord's Supper, continues through Good Friday and Holy Saturday culminates in the Easter Vigil, and concludes with Evening Prayer of Easter Sunday.
  • Lent is observed until Mass of the Lord's Supper
  • The Great Three Days are celebrated
  • The Great Feast )(Easter) is observed for 50 days
The element of music sets the tone and stage for these celebrations.   In addition to Christmas, the Triduum music, reflection and songs that lead up to Easter are well worth your time to hear and appreciate
Please mark your calendars to conclude your Lenten journey; and celebrate in joyful triumph the feast of the Resurrection.

Sr. Nancy, O.P.

Canopy (baldachino) over Tabernacle houses speakers for the new organ.   It was an inspiration of the Holy Spirit that prompted the red fabric baldachino over the center of the Sanctuary.   It lends focus to the Sanctuary, and to the Tabernacle where the Eucharist is reserved.   It adds a more finished appearance to the Sanctuary.   Functionally, the canopy conceals a shelf which supports (4) four customized speakers for the new organ.   The center location was recommended by the Graves Music Company of Columbus so the sound would be evenly dispersed to the congregation.
Thanks to our parishioners Steve Huber, Bob Huber, Becky Hedges and Kathy Heck for their design, craftsmanship and dedication.
The new Allen Organ will be played at Easter Masses.
