Mary, Mother of Jesus, was the first
disciple. She knew Jesus before anyone else even heard
about him. She asked him to work his first miracle at the
Wedding Feast in Cana.
Mary is a very good example of what it
means to be a disciple. She said "yes" to the
will of God when the angel asked her to be the mother of Jesus. She
was there when Jesus preached, when he ate, when he died and
after he rose. Mary was present when the disciples were
filled with the Holy Spirit.
We ask Mary to pray for us in the same
way we ask our friends to pray for us. Mary is a great
prayer partner. Many favors have been granted through
Mary's intercession. Catholics do pray directly to
Jesus. But it helps to have many people praying on earth
and in heaven.
Do Catholics worship Mary? Catholics
only worship God. But we do love and honor Mary as the one
who said "Yes". Through Mary, Jesus came into the
world. Through Jesus we are all saved.
